University of New Mexico School of Fine Arts, Albuquerque

In a 2005 renovation, the design team opted to install a new terrazzo floor. The designer chose it as an elegant, solid-surfacesolutionto honor the Native American heritage of New Mexico with designs reminiscent of “carpets woven in stone.” The new terrazzo designs are installed at the entries to the symphony hall, art museum, and theatre. Mother-of-pearl and glass aggregates lend the nine-color design depth and texture. The entire project was completed while school was in session, without shutting down the Fine Arts complex. Note the designer’s signature in the floor, which was fabricated from zinc dividers.

Installed by the CORRADINI Corporation.
