Maumus Center, Arabi, LA

A 2016 terrazzo Honor Award winner, this 15,800-square-foot installation in 18 colors is in a science center, with planetarium and museum. The lobby’s Milky Way design wasinstalled without divider strips.  Outside, an 850-square-foot sun calendar in a two-and-a-half-inch bonded cementitious terrazzo system accurately indicates time and date with a beam of light. The brass arcs were bent and laid out in the field and over 1,000 individual solid brass waterjet-cut discs were inset by hand.  Installed by American Tile & Terrazzo Company of Metairie, La.
